Shown at the January 1999 Detroit motor show as a concept, it was later that year, in November, that the final iteration of the Celica reached the market. It came with a 1.8-litre petrol engine rated at 140bhp seen here. Updates at the end of 2002 brought minor adjustments for the interior and exterior, as well as improved brakes and suspension.

All versions came with a six-speaker hi-fi, anti-lock brakes, remote central locking, twin front airbags, and a full-size spare wheel. Adding Celica Premium as the original owner did here added an electric sunroof, leather trim and climate control. Further adding the Style Pack gave 17” Alloy Wheels and a rear spoiler.

By 2004 the range now consisted of the Celica, Premium, Style and T Sport; all featured the 140bhp engine except for the 189bhp T Sport. Unusually here we have a Premium and Style (sometimes called Sport) packaged car also fitted with the rare options of Sports Twin Exhaust, Side Body Rubbing Strips and Rear Parking Aid.

Great driving position, sharp handling and lively engine make for a very engaging drive.
