Every once in a while there are cars that come along that are just special, they use all the best of the manufacturers parts and expertise to produce something that is just the complete package. Back in 2011 Porsche took the amazing Cayman S, and made it 55kg lighter (1295 kg), fitted as standard a LSD, fitted lowered 20mm sports suspension and uprated the engine by 9bhp to 330hp.

This may not sound like much, but in practice it is the ultimate Porsche 987.2 Cayman package, so good that Porsche gave it the coveted “R” badge. The Cayman R was born.

Evo magazine (No 156) came to the conclusion “Be in no doubt this is a phenomenally capable sports car”.

In a subsequent group test in Evo magazine no 158 they summed the car up which perfectly : “So many superlatives spring to mind its hard to know where to start, but subtlety, poise, progression, cohesion, tactility, balance and exploitability should give you an idea of how special the Cayman R feels.

The launch cars, press pack and beautiful hard back brochure were all in its signature Peridot metallic green with fixed rear wing spoiler. Production number are reputed to be worldwide 1621 units with UK cars 250, UK Peridot green cars 48.

Now everyone I talk to has a differing opinion on the ideal Cayman R spec, what I will say having owned this car for 5 years, is this specification has been superb, I've driven it all around the UK, through the lake district and Scotland in hot summers and its been both comfortable and very very engaging.

NOTE : I don't believe Porsche published Cayman R production data, from my research it appears there are around 48 Peridot Cayman Rs in the UK, overall 49% of Cayman Rs came with manual gearboxes and 60% came with Sports seats. So its likely there are only appromimately 15 cars of this spec in the UK.

This Cayman R has covered 81951 miles which is viewed by some to be high. I personally don't see it this way, this R drives better than ever. This car has had good maintenance and also had all of the usual age related Cayman R required additional work completed, these cars are 15yrs old now although they don't look or feel it. This car has just breezed through a clean MOT.

In 2019 a previous owner spent £6.3k on getting the High pressure fuel pump replaced, service, brake pads and suspension refresh.

The car comes with its original book pack in its leather folder, 2 working keys and a rare period hardback Cayman R brochure. A stamped service book shows the above maintenance and there is an A4 folder containing lots of invoices for the above and previous completed work.
