Immaculate 2007 Saab 9-3 Convertible in Aero specification, with the range-topping 2.8 V6 Turbo engine, suitably specified in Jet Black Metallic paintwork with Black Hood and Black Leather Sport interior and official Griffin front bumper, washers and grilles upgrade. Just 33K miles.

All handbooks and keys are present as one would expect of a 33K mile car, all in impeccable condition as is the entire vehicle which presents virtually as-new.

There is no ULEZ charge for this very usable and exceptional condition car.

First registered in November 2007 as a Saab GB car, it was they who carried out the PDI and first service at 10934 miles in December 2008.

On transfer to its next owner, Toomey Saab in Essex took over care and servicing of the car punctually in November each year 2009-2013 at 10947, 13449, 17135 and 18174 miles.

The subsequent keeper paid to Saab Watford the sum of £1500 to upgrade the front bumper and grilles to ‘Aero Griffin’ specification using an approved Saab Griffin upgrade kit and thus the front-end taking on the subtly aggressive look of the Saab Griffin Aero design.

Meanwhile the meticulous service record was maintained with attention in December 2013, 2014 and 2017 at 19433, 21324 and 23495 miles.

Here is a car used only in fine summer weather and that shows in the condition as presented today and including the underside.

At the next keeper change in December 2018 a full service to include oil, air and pollen filters, spark plugs, fuel filter and front brake discs and pads was carried out, the mileage now at 31126 miles.

Rear brake discs and pads followed in July 2019 before the final keeper change.

Further upgrades followed with the installation of factory-look front and rear parking sensors and Bluetooth to augment the very impressive specification of the vehicle as supplied, including Satellite Navigation which is incorporated far more elegantly than in many new cars today.

Air-Conditioning system has been re-gassed and a service in January 2020 at 32956 miles completed. The car has been serviced again at 33300 miles using Mobil 3000 oil and two new Continental front tyres fitted per original equipment and with matching rears.

In-line with the impeccable service history this Aero had an MOT on the same anniversary dates with advisories largely limited to wipers and tyres and both front coil springs have been replaced.

Sitting at just 33,300 miles now, this amazing unmarked Saab in evocative Aero spec with Turbo engine is ready for summer motoring.

The MK2 9-3 Convertible was undoubtedly Saab’s best drop-top to date and came with a reputation for solidity and available at prices considerably lower than an equivalent BMW or Audi.

The Saab also has a unique and very appealing look and can be driven in full automatic mode or with manual shifts.

Saab had a representation in this market niche right back to the days of the 900 Convertible and the announcement of the Saab 9-3 Sport Saloon in 2002 marked a new direction. Whereas many previous Saab convertibles were modified versions of existing platforms, the drop-top version of the 9-3 Sport Saloon was engineered in a more thorough manner to combat any torsional rigidity problems. Three turbocharged petrol engines were available at the 2003 launch, starting with a 150bhp 1.8t, moving through to the 175bhp 2.0t and the range topping 210bhp 2.0T engine found in the Aero variants.

In mid 2007, further alterations were announced to the exterior styling and now also included a 2.8T V6 engine with 280bhp and Aero badging and specification, which topped the range and is as seen and offered here.

All 2007-8 MY models got a restyled front-end with a clamshell bonnet, a revised grille and LED light strips that sit across the top of the headlamp pod.

The Saab's hood is electrically operated and requires no unlatching or arcane procedures to operate, retracting in just 20 seconds, making it possible to drop the top at traffic lights without the potential embarrassment of being caught at half mast when the lights turn green. The hood operation is very slick indeed. Instead of flipping up, an aluminium tonneau cover raises itself and then slides back, making for a quicker operation and a better seal than a traditional hinged cover.

Saab's CargoSET system is another innovation. This 'self expanding trunk' frees up a useful amount of luggage space in the boot - the kind of space that convertible owners in this class must usually forgo. The hood itself is triple skinned for improved noise and thermal insulation. The attention to detail is wonderful. A small gutter has been sewn into the side of the fabric to prevent water droplets dripping onto the seats and there's also what Saab calls a 'surround trim'. This is basically a horseshoe-shaped line that runs from the base of each door pillar and incorporates the panels on top of the doors, the rear side trims and most of the tonneau cover.

Offered here is the flagship Aero model, with super smooth 2.8 Turbo V6 engine and 6-speed automatic transmission.

Front and side airbags, active head restraints, central locking and a remote control alarm with immobiliser are standard. The Aero features spoilers, sill extensions and more sporty 17” alloy wheels.

The chassis is three times more torsionally rigid than the original 9-3. Saab developed a system they refer to as ReAxs, which passively steers the rear wheels to cut out the turgid understeer many powerful front wheel drive cars suffer from. Other novelties include DynaCage; Saab-speak for two spring-loaded rollover hoops that are recessed behind the rear head restraints which automatically deploy if the car thinks its falling over.

Perhaps the most intriguing development is CargoWing, a rear spoiler that can convert into a ski or snowboard holder!

The MK2 Saab 9-3 Convertible reflected a new quest for dynamic excellence. When work began on this 9-3 drop-top, Saab's designers were determined to imbue it with the same handling characteristics as the acclaimed 9-3 Sports Saloon. In order to overcome the loss of rigidity caused by removing the roof, a secondary supplemental chassis was developed, effectively a ring of steel linking and reinforcing the front rear and side structures.

The result is a car devoid of the shake, rattle and roll of many convertibles, the result is a car that drives more smoothly, that allows its suspension to work properly and which also permits designers to work to fine tolerances in the construction of components like the electric folding hood.

The Saab 9-3 Convertible upheld a long, and indeed lucrative, tradition of fine Saab drop tops. This time around, however, it had enough about it to satisfy the more serious driver as well as those just looking to enjoy four-seat open top motoring.

Well engineered and easily capable of 150K miles, the mere 33K miles on this example makes it truly exceptional and unrepeatable.
