Everything works as it should and the automatic climate control system (573) has had both air-conditioning condensers replaced recently and the system recharged.

With deliveries starting early 2009, the ‘Gen 2' 987 was installed with an all new Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) engine. Quality both inside and outside took a significant step forward with the Gen 2 models (2009MY onwards) and the all-new engine designed out the possibility of major engine issues that were sometimes seen in the earlier models. Externally, the 987.2 had an upgraded front bumper with LED running lights.

(The IMS bearing is not an issue on the 987, the cams are driven directly from the nose of the crankshaft. Alusil alloy was used for the crankcase (987.1 used the Lokasil method) and with 4 oil pick-ups from the cam covers (987.1 had 2). This virtually eliminated bore scoring problems. The leaky rear main oil seal (RMS) that blighted many of the 986 models was also largely resolved by the 987 models.)

In summary, the 987.1 was a good car, the 987.2 made it even better in almost every way.

There was also huge confidence from Porsche in the galvanised steel bodyshell, granting a 10-Year warranty against corrosion.

The Type 987 was a major redesign of the original, and very successful, Type 986 Boxster. With 8 years experience of what customers wanted, the new model had crisper, more contemporary looks and a significantly more pleasant interior that mirrored the new 997 model. There was more power and the best feature is the everyday driveability. Retaining the near ideal 47% front, 53% rear weight distribution, the mid-engined 2-seater offers spacious luggage areas both in the front and rear. The water cooled flat-6 engine delivers smooth, tractable power in a package that is complemented by class leading power assisted steering and brakes. For a more sporty drive, the manual gearbox as offered here wins out, the shift is crisp and precise and the steering feel is sublime.

Desirable options include 19-inch alloys, PSM, Park Assist, Heated Sports Seats and Cruise Control, all of which are fitted to this example.

A rare opportunity to acquire an exemplary example of this sought after model.
